We will have a representative of the new owners of 1380 NE 48th Street, affectionately known as the cement factory. This group seeks to redevelop the property, and will present their plans to us on Tuesday.
And updates on the movement in Tallahassee to regulate sober houses as available.

Sober Home Public Meeting at City Hall this Thursday at 6PM

Highlands neighbors – just a reminder, the City of Pompano Beach will hold a public meeting to discuss the sober house problem as well as short term vacation rentals, this Thursday at City Hall. The city is working with state legislators to pass needed laws to regulate these nuisances.
We need residents of the Highlands to come out in force and show the city that people up here are serious about ridding our neighborhood of sober houses. It is a fact that previous meetings sponsored by the city have been dominated by people who live in waterfront areas of the city, complaining about vacation rentals. While the two issues are related, different legislation is required to address each. That’s why we encourage as many Highlands residents as possible to attend, and speak up to counterbalance the overwhelming focus on vacation rentals.
The meeting begins at 6 pm, and more information can be had by calling Karen Friedman at (954) 545-7792.

Meeting Tomorrow (March 6) at 7pm

Greetings Highlands neighbors, just a reminder our monthly PBHCIA neighborhood meeting takes place this Tuesday at 7. After last month’ s fantastic pot luck live entertainment extravaganza, it is back to business.
Bring your code compliance concerns to be heard in person by Dario, our code inspector. BSO deputies will provide the latest public safety news. Also, representatives of your neighborhood association attended a municipal meeting where sober house issues were discussed, and new measures may be implemented to control this menace. So join us, Highlands Park, 1650 NE 50 Ct, and help make the Highlands a better place to live.

Saturday – Unity in the Community, Feb 7 – PBHCIA Pot Luck Supper

Greetings Highlands neighbors, just a reminder of our upcoming February 7 meeting, our annual neighborhood open house and pot-luck supper. This event originated in the bad old days as a sort of “good riddance” to the old year, but now is the most popular event on our calendar. A mix of eclectic foods, live music and good conversation is always a welcome diversion form the daily routine.
We welcome side dishes to share, but usually there is plenty of food, so come and enjoy!. Please see our website for more details, or email with questions. Hope to see you all there.
This Saturday, 1/28/17, is the annual Unity in the Community celebration, organized by our friends in Cresthaven and the city to recognize cultural diversity, bring people out and just have fun. The event is at Community Park from 11 to 4, and more information is available from their website,
Thank you for your continued support
