Hello neighbors, our next regular meeting will take place this Tuesday, November 5 at 7pm. The location will be as always the Pompano Highlands Park, 1650 NE 50th Court. Our special guest speaker will be Mr. Dennis Beach, City Manager for Pompano Beach.
We asked Mr. Beach to come in and provide us with an update on the city’s efforts to regulate housing. Vacant buildings, transient housing and other issues continue to plague the Highlands, despite a somewhat improving real estate market. Please join us; the more personal experiences we bring to the discussion, the better city officials will know of our concerns. Remember to bring addresses of any specific houses that are troublesome.
Last month we had Mario Sotolongo, zone inspector for code compliance, come in and speak to the new code provisions, bulk trash abuses, and general procedural matters. The attached meeting minutes outline the discussion. Mario can be reached at (954) 786-7870 for any specific complaints.
Also, we welcomed some new neighbors to the Highlands at our October meeting. The Pompano Beach Highlands remains one of the last areas in Broward County with opportunities for affordable home ownership, and our Association believes promoting home ownership in the Highlands is good for all. That is why we are working with the City to improve code enforcement and provide amenities to enhance the neighborhood.
At our November meeting, we will have nominations for board and officers to serve in 2014. The election will be in December. Please re-new your membership for 2014, email or call (954) 933-6393
Upcoming events of interest include the neighborhood flea market
, scheduled for November 16 at the Highlands Park. The Association will set up a table, sales proceeds from any household goods donated will benefit the PBHCIA. You can bring merchandise for sale to the November 1 meeting. If you wish to reserve a table for yourself, call (954) 363-3313
Our website has been re-vamped, and we hope to have more announcements of community interest at www.pbhighlands.org
. Check back often.
With street construction coming to a conclusion, and new development taking place around the neighborhood, things are looking up up in the Highlands! Thank you for your continued support.
The officers and board of the Pompano Beach Highlands Civic Improvement Assn., Walter Syrek, Secretary.
